OBJECTIVES:
Participants will:

  • Describe the major milestones in the evolution of lymphedema education over the past four decades and their impact on clinical practice
  • Compare historical and contemporary approaches to lymphedema education, highlighting key advances in evidence, technology, and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Evaluate current challenges and future opportunities in lymphedema education to support continued professional development and improved patient outcomes
  • Understand the ventricular structures of the brain that produce and provide flow conduits for cerebrospinal fluid
  • Distinguish the differences between glial lymphatics (or glymphatics) and meningeal lymphatics
  • Describe the relationship between cerebrospinal fluid and the meningeal/peripheral lymphatics
  • Identify the conditions that the cerebrospinal fluid / peripheral lymphatic relationship is disrupted.
  • Explain how sex hormones impact the lymphatic system during the different stages of the life cycle
  • Explain the impact of the hormones related to pregnancy on the lymphatics and lymphedema
  • Explain modifications to lymphedema treatment based on hormonal changes
