OBJECTIVES:
Participants will:
- Recognize the need for a paradigm shift in the identification and treatment of lipedema syndrome
- Demonstrate an understanding of lipedema as a pain syndrome, rather than an edema disease, based on the German S2k guideline on lipedema
- Differentiate eight common myths from facts regarding the diagnosis and treatment of patients with lipedema, including the belief that lipedema is a common disease
- Recognize how advanced dynamic compression therapy can improve lipedema fat depth, tissue fluid, signs and symptoms and quality of life in women living with lipedema
- Describe how we use GLP-1 agonists to reduce weight and improve quality of life for women with lipedema
- Identify additional supplements and medications that are useful for the treatment of lipedema.
- Describe two different types of fibrosis commonly occurring in lipedema
- Describe three different types of fibrosis that occur in both lipedema and lymphedema
- Name three current treatment strategies for lipedema-related fibrosis
- Recognize the basic differences between lymphedema and lipedema diagnosis and conservative, non-surgical treatment
- Identify the basic differences between lymphedema and lipedema types of surgical treatment
- Explain how these differences impact surgical treatment options for both conditions
- Assess the importance of co-morbidities in designing treatment for lipedema
