OBJECTIVES
Participants:

  • Demonstrated the use of emerging NIRF lymphatic imaging techniques to visualize normal and diseased lymphatic function.
  • Demonstrated how therapy (MLD and PCDs) impacts lymphatic function as seen with NIRF lymphatic imaging in Lymphedema subjects.
  • Understood how imaging the lymphatics can be used to discover genetic causes of primary lymphedema.
  • Understood the implications for further work-up of patients who present with swelling
  • Identified the medical and treatment considerations for patients with lymphedema and co-morbidity conditions
  • Understood the relative and absolute contraindications and cautions for MLD and CDT
  • Recognized the most current research articles related to lymphedema in 2013-14
  • Discussed the current research findings with peers and patients
  • Described the appropriate patient selection for palliative techniques
  • Discussed the differences in contraindications for CDT within the palliative care model
  • Understood the importance of musculoskeletal rehabilitation and exercise in the recovery of Breast Cancer
  • Understood the need to return the cancer survivor to their "optimal" new normal and not just a new normal through the use of exercise
  • Discussed the differences between custom and OTC compression garments
  • Identified various skin care techniques for wound care
  • Understood how adapted yoga can be beneficial for quality of life for those with lymphedema
  • Identified the specific yoga poses that are beneficial for improving lymphatic flow
  • Applied the adapted yoga poses into a specific sequence
  • Brainstormed and discuss methods and alternatives for various aspects of lymphedema treatment in a round table discussion.
  • Developed resources and networking connections with other lymphedema therapists
  • Developed problem-solving and clinical reasoning skills for advanced level lymphedema treatment through interactive discussion with other lymphedema therapists
