OBJECTIVES
Participants learned to:

  • Identify five different types of soft tissue fibrosis
  • Identify three differentiating factors between radiation fibrosis and lymphostatic fibrosis
  • Name two functional impairments commonly associated with fibrosis
  • Name three different type of manual therapy techniques to treatment fibrosis
  • Discuss the rationales/guidelines for H&N compression
  • Identify appropriate vs inappropriate compression strategies
  • List resources for obtaining compression materials/supplies
  • Demonstrate basic compression strategies for H&N lymphedema
  • Explain basic MLD strategies and variations
  • Demonstrate potential future treatment options
  • Discuss the rationales/guidelines for H&N compression
  • Recognize breast lymphedema and trunk/chest wall congestion
  • Understand scar tissue/radiation fibrosis management with manual and taping techniques
  • Learn self-care options for patients
  • Understand how adapted yoga can be beneficial for quality of life for those with lymphedema
  • Identify the specific yoga poses that are beneficial for improving lymphatic flow
  • Apply the adapted yoga poses into a specific sequence
  • Brainstorm and discuss methods and alternatives for various aspects of lymphedema treatment in a round table discussion
  • Develop resources and networking connections with other lymphedema therapists
  • Develop problem-solving and clinical reasoning skills for advanced level lymphedema treatment through interactive discussion with other lymphedema therapists
  • Identify the links between obesity and lymphedema
  • Understand the mechanisms that result in adipose proliferation in the presence of lymph
  • Recognize the benefits and superiority of a ketogenic diet for weight loss and health
  • Recognize the urgency of addressing weight management in a comprehensive lymphedema program
  • DIscuss an evidence-based program and results of a research study
  • Identify four different action words to describe skilled care
  • Name the components of conservative treatment
  • Name three qualifying diagnoses for Medicare coverage for pneumatic compression
